Frenchies, a new Colorado-based nail salon franchise, is offering customers a different — and possibly healthier— nail experience where they don’t have to stress over cleanliness and sanitation.
Brooke Hansen owns the Frenchies salon at 2720 Council Tree Ave., Suite 180 in Fort Collins. As a hairstylist and owner of Suite C Salon, 400 Main St., Windsor, Hansen understands the importance of keeping a salon clean.
Essentially, the salon has been practicing extensive cleaning and sanitation routines — like wiping down chairs, benches and tables after each guest — well before the pandemic-mandated guidelines were implemented, Hansen said.

“After reopening we didn’t have to change anything as far as cleaning goes. As far as the cleaning and sanitizing, nothing changed for us because we were already doing that, ” Hansen said. “We just had to wear masks and seat people six feet apart. That’s it.”

Frenchies doesn’t offer acrylic nail services, crushed acrylic dips, or use harsh chemicals, so the air in the salon always smells fresh and clean.

“Any of these chemicals can induce respiratory symptoms like coughing, wheezing, nasal congestion, throat irritation or shortness of breath when you breathe in the fumes, ” Hansen explained. “Plus, think about how many people have dipped their finger into the acrylic powder before you. There’s no way to sanitize the powder.”
The salon features a high-tech ventilation system with vents located at each manicure and pedicure station that constantly circulates air every 15 minutes, Hansen explained.
The salon uses all-natural nail polishes, like EMMA, that have less chemicals than regular nail polishes, and some are gluten free, Moranda Cristin, salon concierge said. The polish comes in a traditional option as well as a gel option for extended, lasting wear.

Instead of cleaning and reusing manicure and pedicure tools, the salon utilizes disposable items such as files, buffers and orangewood sticks. Customers have the option of taking these items home with them or having their nail tech dispose of them after use.

Metal reusable tools undergo a three-step cleaning and sterilization process that includes washing the tools in soap and water and soaking in a hospital-grade disinfectant before placing them in a medical-grade autoclave for sterilization.
Off Nails, Manicure Or Pedicure
The salon also doesn’t use dangerous like Credo knives or foot razors, or “cheese graters” which in some states and counties are illegal to use.
“If you think about it, how many times have you seen the nail tech sterilize or clean the grater or razor after they use it on you? Not often; they just throw it back into their bin, ” Hansen said. “I’ve been in this industry for 20 years and I didn’t realize it until I started checking into Frenchies. You don’t know these things; it’s all about education.”
Without jets or pipes that need to be thoroughly flushed after each use, the foot basins can’t collect and trap harmful bacteria. Foot basins are soaked in hospital grade disinfectant for 10 minutes before the next use.
Frenchies Modern Nail Salon — Altitude
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), nails can harbor dirt and germs that can spread infections and bacteria.
The CDC recommends keeping nails short and trimming them often, avoid biting or chewing nails, and never rip or bite a hangnail, clip it with a nail trimmer.
